The bioeconomy is driving manufacturing innovation on a broad front. Nordic Pilot Center is supporting companies in their efforts to move away from fossil-based materials towards environmentally friendly alternatives such as paper, board and biofibres. According to Nora Haatainen and Marko Lauraeus, founders of the Nordic Pilot Center, the innovations brought about by the bioeconomy create new uses and promise huge potential, for example by replacing single-use plastics with renewable raw materials.
Bio- and Circular economy at the heart of the green transition
The bioeconomy and circular economy are important elements in achieving the green transition, which is advancing by leaps and bounds as more and more countries and actors commit to common climate and environmental goals. The green transition is also creating huge demand for innovations that can be scaled up effectively to industrial scale.
– Finland is known worldwide as a world leader in the bioeconomy, especially in pulp and paper. Nevertheless, the scalable introduction of new materials and processes requires specific skills and resources that not all companies have. Therefore, bioeconomy solutions need to be supported by resources, which the Nordic Pilot Center provides in a centralised and cost-effective way, says the founders Nora Haatainen and Marko Lauraeus.
Centralisation of piloting enables resource wisdom
Nordic Pilot Center provides companies with a centralised piloting environment that enables fast and flexible collaboration with industry experts without large investments in new infrastructure. This resource-wise way of using existing equipment and expertise will help companies bring new bio-based products to market faster and more responsibly.
Committed to supporting companies and organisations on their journey towards more sustainable production and innovation in bio-based products, Nordic Pilot Center’s holistic approach brings together material development, piloting and industrial scaling, strengthening Finland's position as a leader in the bioeconomy and accelerating the green transition globally.
