Support for the bioeconomy value chain

The Nordic Pilot Center acts as a strong support for innovation in the bioeconomy, taking care of the entire value chain from material development to industrial piloting and process design. The Pilot Center's service package ensures that customers are provided with all the necessary support to develop and scale up new bio-based products, facilitating the market introduction of sustainable solutions.

Working together to cover the whole value chain

"It is important that the pilot plants are able to manage the whole value chain. Value chains start with research and go all the way to recycling of the final product. This requires multidisciplinary skills and expertise, from research and manufacturing to life cycle management," says Marko Lauraeus, founder of the Nordic Pilot Center.

Finland is known as a pioneer in innovation and technology, and Finnish expertise plays an important role in global markets. New innovations require research and development, which in turn creates export opportunities and has a significant impact on the national economy. Finland's strong position as a pioneer in the bioeconomy raises its profile internationally, especially as the bioeconomy and the green transition are highlighted in global agreements.

The role of piloting in innovation

Developing and bringing environmentally friendly products into production requires rigorous piloting before major equipment investments are made. The Nordic Pilot Center offers companies the opportunity to test new bio-based solutions before full-scale production, reducing financial risks and helping companies to act efficiently and quickly. This agility offered by piloting gives Finnish companies a competitive advantage and enables them to commercialise their innovations on international markets.

- Innovation in the bioeconomy is highly international - it requires cooperation between different countries and actors. Finland's innovation, technology and piloting expertise offers opportunities to address global challenges. The Nordic Pilot Center will enable solutions to be exported as ready-made packages to the world, giving Finnish companies a competitive advantage and building a strong export market position," says Marko Lauraeus.
